Since its publication by HarperCollins in August 2002, "with their eyes" has been performed in schools and professional theaters throughout the United States (and abroad!). We've created this site to provide information for those seeking to perform the play, learn more about it or contact us.
"With their eyes" began life as an original production created by a group of Stuyvesant High School students and their English teacher in response to the events of September 11th. Stuyvesant is located four blocks from where the World Trade Center stood, and the Stuyvesant community was deeply affected by the both the events of the day and their aftermath. "With their eyes" is a compilation of interviews-turned-monologues in the style of Anna Deveare Smith, in which various members of the Stuyvesant community tell their stories-- not just of where they were that day and what transpired, but also how they faced the unexpected challenges of life in post-9/11 New York.
In honor of the tenth anniversary of 9/11, HarperCollins is reissuing "with their eyes" to include a revised introduction as well as updates from the individual creators. The reissue will be released in late August 2011.
